Yom Teruah

Messianic Homeschooling & Hebrew Roots Homeschool Curriculum 0 Feast of Trumpets- Yom Teruah Posted on March 12, 2015 by Joel Allen 12 MAR Yom Teruah- Feast of Trumpets, Day of the Awakening Blast, Feast of the Watchmen What do the Scriptures say about it? Lev 23:23 And Yahweh spake unto Moses, saying, Lev 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Lev 23:25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yahweh. When is it? Lev 23:24 … “In the seventh month, in the first day of the month…” What are we commanded to do? 1. Keep it Holy as a regular Sabbath, doing no servile work or the things associated with the seventh day Sabbath. 2. Keep it at its time and season on the first day of the seventh month which is determined by the sighting of the New Moon (Rosh Chodesh). 3. 3. Have a holy convocation. This is a calling of the assembly or community of like-minded believers to assemble together and celebrate this memorial of blowing trumpets. If no one is able to convocate then call together your own family or travel to where another group of believers are assembling and keeping this day Holy. 4. Make a memorial of blowing trumpets- The Hebrew word for memorial is “zikrown” which means a reminder or remembrance. The act of blowing trumpets is to be a reminder or a calling to remembrance. What are we to remember? We are instructed to remember the different sounds of the trumpets and shofar so that we will know what to do when the commander of the heavenly host gives his marching instructions. There are two different instruments represented in the Feast of Trumpets: a) the silver trumpets Num.10 b) the shofar or ram’s horn. We can see the two instruments in Psalm 98:6 “With trumpets (silver trumpets) and sound of cornet (Shofar) make a joyful noise before Yahweh, the King.” Spiritual/Prophetic Significance- Yom Teruah is significant of many things: 1. The day of the return of our Messiah Yeshua as Messiah Ben David and the resurrection of those in Messiah who are sleeping in the ground and those that remain as the Bride of the Messiah. 2. The call to assemble the elect unto the Day of Redemption / Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement when the elect are judged according to their works and the Atoning blood of the Messiah is applied and the elect are sealed and immortality is put on, life everlasting. 3. The warning blast is sounded and the enemies of Yahweh are scattered in fear because the King (Melek) of Righteousness has come to punish the wicked nations that have forsaken Him, His Torah (Law/instructions) and persecuted His people. 1 Thess. 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Messiah shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” Matt 24:30 “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Rev. 6:14-16 “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:” Num. 10:2 “Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps. (3) And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. (4) And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee. (5) When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward. (6) When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. (7) But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. (9) And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before Yahweh your Elohim, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. (10) Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months (Rosh Chodesh), ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your Elohim: I am Yahweh your Elohim.” Matt. 24:36 “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Mar. 13:32 “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” Luke 12:40 “Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” Now we can see the full prophetic picture as to what is going to happen by keeping the Feast of Trumpets in its proper time and season. Yom Teruah is on the Rosh Chodesh or head of the month, which happens to be the first day of the seventh month according to Leviticus 23:24.  Just like the Israelites in Numbers chapter 10 the dead in Messiah will rise first (the princes/those on the east side) ready to assemble at the door of the Tabernacle (the Messiah) and then those that remain (those on the south side) will assemble in like manner. Then those enemies of the people of Yahweh will hear the sound of the alarm and they will scatter in fear, praying that the rocks will fall on them as the Lamb of God rends the heavens in great judgment. There will be those that are considered servants that will not be watching and ready for the Master’s return. Who are these servants? Luke 12:45 “But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens (exact usury and unnecessary burdens on one another), and to eat and drink, and to be drunken (be full of the world and it’s systems); Luke 12:46 “The lord of that servant (the Messiah) will come in a day when he looketh not for him (they will not be looking for the new moon), and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. Luke 12:47 “And that servant (those that reject Torah), which knew his lord’s will (were exposed to the truth), and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will (did not keep Torah), shall be beaten with many stripes. Luke 12:48 “But he that knew not (sins of ignorance in Torah), and did commit things worthy of stripes (those that were not exposed to the truth), shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required (Matt. 5:19): and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.” Let us be the servants whom (when the Messiah comes again) will be found watching and ready, faithful and obedient servants of the Master. Luke 12:42 “And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?” Luke 12:43 “Blessed is that servant (Torah obedient), whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” Luke 12:44 “Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.” This entry was posted in Feasts, Yom Teruah and tagged christian feast of trumpets teaching, feast of trumpets, hebrew roots trumpets, hebrew roots unleavened bread teaching, messianic feast of trumpets teaching, messianic yom teruah teaching. Chanukah

Messianic Homeschooling & Hebrew Roots Homeschool Curriculum 0 Feast of Dedication- Chanukah Posted on March 15, 2015 by Joel Allen 15 MAR The Story of Chanukah: Judea was part of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt until 200 BCE when King Antiochus III the Great of Syria defeated King Ptolemy V Epiphanes of Egypt at the Battle of Panion. Judea became at that moment part of the Seleucid Empire of Syria. King Antiochus III the Great wanting to conciliate his new Jewish subjects guaranteed their right to “live according to their ancestral customs” and to continue to practice their religion in the Temple of Jerusalem. However in 175 BCE, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, the son of Antiochus III invaded Judea, ostensibly at the request of the sons of Tobias.[12] The Tobiads, who led the Hellenizing Jewish faction in Jerusalem, were expelled to Syria around 170 BCE when the high priest Onias and his pro-Egyptian faction wrested control from them. The exiled Tobiads lobbied Antiochus IV Epiphanes to recapture Jerusalem. As the ancient Jewish historian Flavius Josephus tells us “The king being thereto disposed beforehand, complied with them, and came upon the Jews with a great army, and took their city by force, and slew a great multitude of those that favored Ptolemy, and sent out his soldiers to plunder them without mercy. He also spoiled the temple, and put a stop to the constant practice of offering a daily sacrifice of expiation for three years and six months.” When the Second Temple in Jerusalem was looted and the services stopped, Judaism was effectively outlawed. In 167 BCE Antiochus ordered an altar to Zeus erected in the Temple. He banned circumcision and ordered pigs to be sacrificed at the altar of the temple. Antiochus’s actions proved to be a major miscalculation as they were massively disobeyed and provoked a large-scale revolt. Mattathias, a Jewish priest, and his five sons Jochanan, Simeon, Eleazar, Jonathan, and Judah led a rebellion against Antiochus. Judah became known as Yehuda HaMakabi (“Judah the Hammer”). By 166 BCE Mattathias had died, and Judah took his place as leader. By 165 BCE the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid monarchy was successful. The Temple was liberated and rededicated. The festival of Hanukkah was instituted by Judah Maccabee and his brothers to celebrate this event. After recovering Jerusalem and the Temple, Judah ordered the Temple to be cleansed, a new altar to be built in place of the polluted one and new holy vessels to be made. According to the Talmud, olive oil was needed for the menorah in the Temple, which was required to burn throughout the night every night. But there was only enough oil to burn for one day, yet miraculously, it burned for eight days, the time needed to prepare a fresh supply of oil for the menorah. An eight day festival was declared by the Jewish sages to commemorate this miracle. Definition: Chanukah is Hebrew for dedication or rededication. This name was given for the festival because of the eight days it took to rededicate the altar and temple and make it holy and sanctified once again. In Exod. 29:37 / 2 Chron. 7:9 it states that it takes seven days for the altar to be consecrated and then it can be in use on the eighth day. Yeshua Kept Chanukah: John 10:22-23 “And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. And Yeshua walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch.” Yeshua taught from the themes of Chanukah: It was a tradition that the Chanukiahs would be lit and put in windows facing the streets and in doorways opposite the Mezuzahs so that the miracle of Chanukah would be broadcasted throughout all of the land wherever they were in the world. This light was not to be hidden. Listen to what Yeshua teaches about this: Luke 11:33 “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth [it] in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.” Matt. 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Yeshua is the light of the world… John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” I thought Yeshua spoke in Matt. 5:14 that the disciples of Yeshua were the “light of the world?” John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Torah is light? Does scripture tell us that the Law or Torah is light in the darkness? Pro 6:23 KJV – For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life: Isa 8:20 KJV – To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them. Isa 51:4 KJV – Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. Chanukah is a time of letting your light shine. It is also a time of rededication and a time to reprioritize your life to share the gospel and bring the light of Torah to the nations. 1 Corinth. 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” We are not to be hidden or ashamed of the truth that is in us but just as the Chanukiah is lit and put in plain view for all to see, so are our lives supposed to be lived out for all to see. Maybe your light has been obscured by life’s challenges or perhaps unbelief has put a blanket over your light? Now is the time to Chanukah or rededicate your life to Messiah. 2 Cor. 4:4 “…the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Messiah, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” Don’t let HaSatan (the god of this age) put out the light that is in you. It’s time to let Yeshua who is the image of God to shine in you and draw others out of darkness. He was the light of the world when He was on the earth and now we are the light of the world because He is in us. This is why we need to have an answer for the hope or light that is in us. It is not us but it is HIM. This Chanukah let the shamash or the Helper candle (the Holy Spirit) light the fire again in us…brighter and hotter than ever before. 2 Cor. 4:6 “ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Yeshua Messiah.” 1 Peter 2:9 “But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” 8 ways to shine for Yeshua: 1. Dedicate or Rededicate your life to Yeshua as your Lord (Adonai) and Master. If you have walked away from him then confess with your mouth and Teshuv or return to him. He wants nothing more than to restore you to a loving relationship with the Father. Sin and uncleanness separates us from the Father but through repentance (Teshuvah) we return to our Father like the prodigal son and He covers us with a robe of righteousness (Yeshua’s blood) and a ring of authority (the seal of the Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh). 2. Study to show yourself approved- Get to know the one who created you and loves you and desperately wants to reveal Himself to you. Like Adam in the Garden of Eden, the Father wants to walk in the garden in the coolness of the evening. The sages believed that it wasn’t the Yahweh Himself that walked with Adam but the Word of God (Devar Elohim) that Adam walked intimately with. Daniel 11:32 says that “them that know their God shall be strong and do great exploits” just like the Maccabees who rededicated the altar in the midst of tyranny. 3. Love your neighbor as yourself- The second greatest commandment is the one that draws men to the Father. Jhn 15:12-13 KJV – “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” It is kindness that the Father uses to draw men to repentance. Be kind and remind. Let everything you do remind others of the love and kindness of the Father. 4. Give to the poor- Share of the blessing that God has given you. As freely as you have received, then freely give. You can’t “outgive” God. In fact, His promise is that the more you give you shall receive the same measure. It is a Torah commandment to give to the poor. Deu 15:11 KJV – “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.” 5. Do not forsake the fatherless- Do you know someone that has a broken home? Being an orphan or fatherless doesn’t necessarily mean they have to live in an orphanage. How many children do you know that have a missing father through divorce or death? This is a great opportunity to be a role model and to help fill that gap in the home. Maybe it’s playing sports outside or watching a movie together. Maybe its inviting them to church or synagogue or to youth events or maybe having a weekly Bible study? Ask the Father how you can help! 6. Do not forsake the widow- Jam 1:27 KJV – “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.” According to the Torah a brother-in-law would step in as husband and father if the husband of a wife died. In our society today this does not happen so in many cases widows are left broken, needy and lonely. Do you know of a family that lost a father in combat? Help them in their affliction. We are commandment to mourn with those who mourn and to laugh with those that laugh. Bring groceries or a cooked meal and be that listening friend with ears and arms wide open. 7. Stand in the evil day- In this day and age lawlessness abounds both in religious circles and outside religion. When it seems like everyone else is running in one direction to do evil be the one that stands against the grain. Though there may seem to be thousands of voices speaking blasphemies and swelling words against God and His Torah be the one that stands firm on the Rock of our Salvation (Yeshua). Pro 1:15-16 KJV – “My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.” 8. Let your works shine before men- Mat 5:16 KJV – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. When we keep the commandments of God by faith we are demonstrating in a real and tangible way that our Father is real and working in and through us. Faith is the evidence of things unseen so when we give to the poor, help the widow and fatherless, keep the feasts, etc. we are declaring the unseen invisible God until He comes and that which is invisible will be visible. For ages men have turn their attention to idols which are images of unseen gods or mighty ones. Yeshua was the invisible word made flesh, the image of God. We today bare witness of the invisible God as Messiah is formed in us and the image of God is chiseled and crafted in our beings. 1Jo 1:1-7 KJV – That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen [it], and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Yom Kippur

Messianic Homeschooling & Hebrew Roots Homeschool Curriculum 0 Day of Atonement- Yom Kippur Posted on March 12, 2015 by Joel Allen 12 MAR Yom Kippur- Day of Atonement, Day of Judgment The Facts: What do the Scriptures say about it? Lev 16:29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before YHVH. Lev 16:31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute forever. Lev 23:27 Also on the tenth [day] of this seventh month [there shall be] a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YHVH. Lev 23:28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before YHVH your Elohim. When is it? Lev 16:29 … “the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month …” What are we commanded to do? 1. Keep it Holy as a regular Sabbath, doing no servile work or the things associated with the seventh day Sabbath. 2. Have a holy convocation. This is a calling of the assembly or community of like-minded believers to assemble together and celebrate this Day of Atonement. If no one is able to convocate then call together your own family or travel to where another group of believers are assembling and keeping this day Holy. 3. This is a day for “afflicting your souls.” This should be a day that your heart is poured out to YHVH and your thoughts are continuously on Him and how to correct wrongs that you have committed and praying for repentance from all of your sins and transgressions. The Hebrew word for soul is “NeFeSH” which can have the meaning of “appetite.” That is why we fast from food and sometimes drinks as well to “afflict our appetites” and committing the entire day to sole devotion to YHVH and his Torah and how we can walk in it more fully. Beware the Leaven of the Pharisees: Some Rabbis of old have added certain requirements to the Day of Atonement that involved such things as not wearing shoes on this day and putting on sackcloth and spreading ashes on their heads as an outward sign of mourning. There is certainly nothing wrong with doing these things on Yom Kippur but the scriptures clearly warn against doing things on the outside as symbol without actually repenting and changing the heart. Joel 2:12-13 “Therefore also now, says YHVH, turn you even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: (13) And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto YHVH your Elohim: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repents him of the evil. Spiritual/Prophetic Significance- Yom Kippur is significant of many things: 1. We will be judged for all of what we have done on the Earth. We will all have to stand before the judgment throne of the Lord and give an account for what we have done or didn’t do. 2. The Messiah Yeshua came and was our “scapegoat” (Lev. 16:10), who was led into the wilderness and died by the hand of a gentile (Lev. 16:21/Pilate). He was and is our atonement sacrifice so that our sins are made clean and we are able to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. 3. Messiah Yeshua was our high priest according to the order of Melchizadek (Heb. 6:20) who freely laid down His own life (John 10:15) on the altar to save his people from their sins. (Matt. 1:21) Lev. 16:21 “And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:” This entry was posted in Feasts, Yom Kippur and tagged christian yom kippur teaching, day of atonement, hebrew roots yom kippur teaching, judgment day, messianic teaching day of atonement, messianic teaching yom kippur, yom ha din, yom kippur. Keep it Holy as a regular Sabbath, doing no servile work or the things associated with the seventh day Sabbath on the first day and the eighth day of the feast. 2. Keep it at its time and season on the fifteenth day of the seventh month. 3. Have a holy convocation on the first day of the feast and on the eighth day of the feast. This is a calling of the assembly or community of like-minded believers to assemble together and celebrate Tabernacles. If no one is able to convocate then call together your own family or travel to where another group of believers are assembling and keeping this day Holy or set apart. 4. We are to build “booths or sukkahs” out of various branches mentioned in Lev. 23:40. We are to dwell in booths or tents for seven days and rejoice before YHVH. This is one of the pilgrimage feasts where all of the males have to appear in Jerusalem before the Lord. Spiritual/Prophetic Significance: Sukkot is significant of many things: 1. The Israelites were led through the wilderness, being delivered from the bondage of Egypt and dwelt in booths and tents. YHVH provided everything they needed and protected them throughout their wanderings. 2. Yeshua is believed to have been born on the first day of Sukkot (not on December 25th) and was the Word made flesh and dwelt (tabernacle/sukkoted) among us and was circumcised according to the covenant of Abraham on the eighth day (Hoshana Rabbah). 3. Sukkot could also speak of a future exodus out of Babylon as scattered Israel and those nations that are grafted in journey through the Great Wilderness of the Tribulation and ultimately tabernacle with the Messiah in the New Jerusalem for 1,000 years. The Messiah in Sukkot- Bible scholars believe that it was during the feast of Sukkot that Yeshua the Messiah was born upon this earth. Specifically, the first day of Sukkot the Son of God put on temporary flesh and dwelt among men. John the disciple alluded to this fact when he wrote where the Messiah came from. Matthew starts out showing the lineage of Joseph, while Luke eludes to the lineage of Miriam (Mary) through the family connection of Zechariah and Elizabeth but John spoke of the Heavenly DNA, linking Yeshua of Nazareth with the Word of God. John 1:1-2,14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” The word used for dwelt in this passage literally means “tabernacled.” The feast of Sukkot is a 7 day feast with a special 8th day observance called Hoshana Rabba (the last great day or the last great praise) and Yeshua was circumcised on this 8th day (of the feast) and it is recorded in Luke 2:21. Later on in the life of Yeshua we see another mention of Sukkot and it is a powerful demonstrative teaching that causes much stir in the temple ceremonies. It is during the Feast of Sukkot that a temple ritual would take place called the water libation ceremony. A priest was dispatched from the temple mount out through the southern steps down to the pool of shiloach (which means sent) and the priest fills a vessel with water and returns up the steps into the temple. This is the only time that water (mixed with a little wine) is placed upon the altar. As water is poured out down one side of a trough that led down to the altar, wine was poured down another trough leading to the altar and together they would meet together on the altar that was red hot at this point. As the mixture of wine and water splashed upon the altar it hissed and steamed as everyone huddled around praying for rain in the coming season, praying for the Messiah to come and the indwelling of the Ruach Hakodesh (Holy Spirit). It is at this moment that Yeshua stood up and proclaimed, “If anyone is thirsty, let him keep coming to me and drinking! Whoever puts his trust in me, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water will flow from his inmost being!'” (John 7:37-38). It is at this moment that everyone started putting together the pieces of the puzzle. The waters carried up from the pool of shiloach were called the “waters of salvation” or quite literally the waters of yeshua. Here they have the Messiah who was named yeshua which meant salvation and he stands at this moment and makes this claim as the mixture of wine and water, which symbolized the blood and water that flowed from his side was spilled upon the altar. Some argued with him and some believed while others pondered these things further. On Hoshana Rabbah, the last day of the feast four 75 foot tall Menorahs were lit in the temple courts and Yeshua continued his teaching by using the symbolism of the bright lights around him: John 8:12 “”I am the light of the world: whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light which gives life.” The Feast of Ingathering- Another name given in scripture for the feast of Sukkot is the feast of Ingathering and also the feast of harvest. This is the end of the year in the fall when the fruit harvest was being collected. Three times a year males are to go up and pilgrimage to Jerusalem to keep the three “harvest feasts.” They are not to be empty handed because they are to produce the firstfruits of their harvest as tithes to the LORD. The first harvest feast is Passover which is the barley harvest. The second harvest feast is Shavuot (Pentecost) which is the wheat harvest and the third harvest feast is Sukkot for the fruit harvest. Notice that there are three harvest feasts to report to Jerusalem and there are three resurrections recorded in scripture. 1. When Yeshua raised from the dead and those that raised with him called the firstfruits of the resurrection (Matt. 27:53, 1 Cor. 15:20,23). 2. The “first resurrection” or the resurrection of the just (Luke 14:14) before the millennial reign of the Messiah (Rev. 20:4-6). 3. The “second resurrection” after the millennial reign of the Messiah (Rev. 20:12) which has been titled the Great White Throne Judgment by many teachers. It is interesting to note that these were pilgrimage feasts symbolizing the resurrections into the Kingdom of Heaven or the New Jerusalem. It is also symbolized in scripture in various places as being the reaping of the harvest. Exodus 23:16 “And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.” Mark 4:29 “But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.” Revelation 14:15 “And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” Remember that the “first resurrection” is called up at the feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) and those that are Atoned for under the blood of Yeshua (Yom Kippur) will be gathered together and made priests and judges in the Millennial kingdom, while tabernacling with the Messiah for 1,000 years. Isaiah 27:12-13 “And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.” Zechariah 14:9 “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day (the millennium of the Lord) shall there be one LORD, and his name one.” What will the Messiah Yeshua be doing during the Millennial reign over the Earth? Micah 4:2 “And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and HE (the Mashiach) will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law (Torah) shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” Isaiah 2:3 says the exact same thing. HE, the Messiah, will teach us His ways. I doubt Yeshua will be teaching replacement theology or modern church doctrine that speaks against the Torah and the feasts of the LORD. There will still be Gentiles or nations outside of the New Jerusalem that will be required to go up and keep the feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot or they will face famines and plagues as punishment. Does this sound like modern Christian doctrine? This is not a matter of liberty or grace but a righteous requirement. This isn’t the “well I don’t fully understand this feast stuff so God understands my heart and will be ok with it.” Read for yourself! The scriptures speak it clearly and overwhelmingly, leaving no shadow of doubt or question. Zechariah 14:11,16-18 “And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited… And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles… And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain… the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles… and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”     This entry was posted in Feasts, Sukkot (Succoth) and tagged christian feast of trumpets teaching, feast of booths, feast of first fruits, feast of the nations, millennial reign of messiah, sukkah, sukkot, sukkoth, tabernacles. Shavuot

Messianic Homeschooling & Hebrew Roots Homeschool Curriculum 0 Feast of Weeks- Shavuot or Pentecost Posted on March 15, 2015 by Joel Allen 15 MAR Pentecost/Shavuot/The Feast of Weeks The Facts: What do the Scriptures say about it? Lev 23:16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. Lev 23:17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD. When is it? Lev 23:15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete: Lev 23:16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. This calculation would be exactly 50 days from the day of First Fruits which is always the Sunday after the Passover. What are we commanded to do? 1. Keep it Holy as a regular Sabbath, doing no servile work or the things associated with the seventh day Sabbath. 2. Have a holy convocation. This is a calling of the assembly or community of like-minded believers to assemble together and celebrate this Feast of Weeks. If no one is able to convocate then call together your own family or travel to where another group of believers are assembling and keeping this day Holy. 3. This is one of the three pilgrimmage feasts to where all the males of Israel are to come and present themselves before the LORD in Jerusalem. Spiritual/Prophetic Significance- The First Shavuot : After the children of Israel were miraculously delivered from the bondage of slavery in Egypt they were led by the pillars of cloud and fire to Mount Sinai. It is there that Yahweh (THE LORD) delivered the 10 commandments and all of the Torah instructions to the people of Israel as a Ketuvah or marriage contract to accompany a sacred covenant between the nation of Israel and God Almighty. It is very important to note that this was a mixed multitude that came up out of Egypt and not only Israelites. Not everyone present were descendants of Jacob but everyone present were HEBREW. What do I mean? Abraham was not Jewish. That may surprise or shock you but Abraham was a Gentile who was called out of his former land into the land of Canaan. He was called a Hebrew which can be translated as “one who crossed over” or as a “sojourner, alien, nomad, or stranger.” So, this mixed multitude all crossed over the Red Sea and were wanderers and sojourners together at Mount Sinai. Before hearing the complete instructions the mixed multitude declared that they would do all that is commanded through Moses. Before the marriage could be consummated Yahweh tells Moses to go down to the people and stop their wickedness because they had built the golden calf, already committing spiritual adultery against the Almighty. The people were washed (Exo. 19:10-17) and made ready to meet God himself but the great sins they committed before the Mount caused a moment of great intimacy and impregnation of the Holy Ghost to be missed. The Law or Torah would remain in stone and not written on their hearts (Eze. 36:26,Jer. 31:33) . The Levites at this time rose up with Moses and slew 3,000 who partook of this great sin at the Mount and were selected to build and maintain the tabernacle and minister before the LORD. Had this great sin of adultery not occurred then there would have been a nation of priests but instead only the Levites would serve in the priesthood and in like manner the only way the presence of God would be among the people of Israel would be through the tabernacle and not in the temple of their flesh. Something to think about: Let’s take a look at the Hebrew word Echad. The Hebrew word Echad means “one or oneness.” It is how God describes himself in the Shema Passage in Deuteronomy 6:4 and it alludes to the great mysteries of how God’s plan of redemption will take place. It speaks of many becoming one or several parts being made whole. Let’s look at a few examples: 1. The union of a marriage- a man and a woman being one or echad. (Gen. 2:24) 2. The evening and the morning were one day or echad. Separate entities but consists of one unified day (Gen 1:5) 3. The waters were gathered into one place or echad. It doesn’t mean there was only one body of water but the bodies of water were gathered into their places so the dry ground could appear. (Gen. 1:9) 4. Jacob called his eleven sons echad even though they were many. (Gen. 32:22) 5. Joseph dreamed of the sun and moon and eleven stars and the word for stars is again echad. (Gen. 37:9) 6. In Nehemiah 7:66 the congregation was gathered “together” using the word echad showing the unification of many parts. 7. In Ezekiel 37:16-17 Ezekiel is to join two sticks symbolizing the house of Judah and the house of Ephraim and bind them together and make one or echad stick or house, the echad house of Israel. I think you get the point. The word Echad can either mean singular as in one in number or it can mean a unification of one or more parts. You can read traces of it in the New Testament as well and start to see the whole picture being formed. 1. John 10:16 “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” 2. John 10:30 “I and my Father are one. 3. Eph 2:15 “Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;” 4. John 17:22 “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” 5. Acts 4:32-“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul.” 6. Romans 12:5 ““we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” This “oneness” is an example of Echad and brings us to the fulfillment of the New Covenant where sins are forgiven, the Torah is written on our hearts and there is a oneness in the spirit for those that are in the Messiah. Jew and Gentile, house of Judah and house of Ephraim are Echad in His hand through the power of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). The Second Shavuot: The second Shavuot experience recorded in scripture is found in the book of Acts. Yeshua (Jesus) speaks to his disciples and speaks of the time he would leave them and ascend into heaven: John 16:7 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (Holy Spirit) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” After the crucifixion of our Passover Lamb on Pesach, Yeshua’s body (symbolic of unleavened bread) was buried and rose again on First Fruits as the First fruits offering of the resurrection of the dead (Rev. 1:5). After his resurrection, Yeshua showed himself to the disciples and gave them final instructions before his ascension: Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” The Greek word for tarry is kathezo which means to “sit down, set or appoint” or in other words to make a “set appointment.” What appointment? Remember that 50 days after his resurrection is the feast or “set appointment” of Shavuot. It is during this “set appointment” that the promise of the Father would come to fruition. Those that made this “set appointment” or feast would be “endued” with power from on high. The Greek word translated into English as endued is the word endyo which means to “be clothed or wrapped in” something. In other words, the Ruach Hakodesh which is the Comforter, the Gift from heaven and the promise of the Father would come and cloth those praying and worshipping at the Feast of Shavuot with power! Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Isn’t that exciting! Why would we ever want to miss an appointment with God? Why would we want to get caught up with traditions and manmade routines and not expect the endyo of the power of God? This reminds me of the great Prophet Elijah that carried a mantle or cloak and did great things in the power of God. After Elijah was taken in a whirlwind into the heavens, Elisha received that same mantle or outer clothing that Elijah had and moved in a greater outpouring of the power of God. In like manner, Yeshua walked in the power of God and was given the Holy Spirit without measure and remarkably he states that we (those that receive the endyo of the H.S.) will do greater things in his name. The disciples did just as Yeshua had instructed and were gathered together for a holy convocation during Shavuot, the feast of weeks and they were accompanied by many others, both Jews and Gentiles. They were in one accord or echad. This was a mixed multitude just as the First Shavuot at Mount Sinai. Just as Moses went up the mountain to receive the Torah and witness the engagement of the LORD and his bride, Yeshua ascended into the mountain of God in heaven, who was the living Torah and providing the second witness needed to consummate the marriage. It is then that Holy Spirit was sent to write the Torah or ketuvah on the hearts of the bride and impregnate them with the life-giving eternal Spirit of God. Just as Miriam (Mary) was impregnated by the Holy Spirit and gave birth to the physical Yeshua of Nazareth, the Bride of Christ is impregnated by the Holy Spirit to bring forth the image or Spirit of Messiah within us. Galatians 4:19 “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,” Shaul (Paul), the writer of the letter to the Galatians understood this principle. He also understood that the Bride of Christ would be many parts but be unified into ONE or echad Body of the Messiah. He writes to the assemblies in Rome that the body of Messiah has been given many different giftings but they are of the same LORD and they are collectively or corporately used to edify and build up the body of believers. Romans 12:4-6 “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us…” And also in the book of Ephesians: Ephesians 4:11-13 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:” Remember that the way God does things is in a certain pattern; first the natural and then the supernatural or spiritual. The mixed multitude at Mount Sinai received the commandments in stone and the physical tabernacle and priesthood. At Pentecost a mixed multitude received the Holy Ghost who wrote the Torah upon their hearts and made them kings and priests of the heavenly tabernacle with their own bodies as temples of the Ruach Hakodesh (1 Cor. 6:19). 1Corinth 15:46 “Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.” 3,000 souls were slain at Mount Sinai by the Levites because of adulteress sin before Yahweh and in the same manner Simon Keefa (Peter) preached under the power of the Holy Spirit and 3,000 souls were added to the kingdom. First the natural and then the spiritual. It is traditional for the scroll of Ruth to be read during Shavuot. Do you know why? The great grandmother of King David was Ruth the Moabitess. She came to know and love the God of her mother-in-law, Naomi. David’s royal line was not totally Jewish. There was a Gentile in it. Ruth married Boas, they had a son Obed, he had a son Jesse, and Jesse fathered King David. At the end of David’s line Yeshua the Messiah was born. Yes, the Messiah of Israel was from a line that had both Jew and Gentile converging at the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. During the feast of Shavuot the priest would present two barley loaves with leaven before the LORD. During Pentecost Yeshua presented and brought together two peoples both Jews and Gentiles. Both barley loaves had leaven (signified sin) and both Jews and Gentiles were born with a sin nature (Rom. 3:9). Both needed a Messiah to wash away sins and to bring into relationship with the Father. It is during this special set appointment that the middle wall of partition was removed between Jew and Gentile and the many member body of Messiah began to assemble. The gospel message would be preached to the Jew first and then the rest of the world would hear the message of salvation and come to know the Jewish Messiah as the lost sheep of Israel are ingathered and restored. 1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” This entry was posted in Feasts, Shavuot and tagged acts 2, barley loaves, counting the omer, feast of weeks, giving of the torah, pentecost, puring out of holy spirit, shavuot, speaking in tongues. Just When Exactly Am I Saved? And What Does That Have to do With a Grill?

Posted on December 3, 2015 by Joel Allen 03 DEC an article by Joel Allen A question I get asked a lot as a Messianic Teacher is “when am I saved as a believer?” Growing up in a major denominational Christian Church I was always taught that I was saved when I asked Jesus in my heart. For me, that was an altar call back when I was eight years old. I don’t remember exactly what the Preacher said that tugged on my heart that Sunday above all others but it was something that I remember as a key moment in my walk with the Lord even some 31 years later. My grandmother, who was a pillar of faith in my life and a devout Baptist, gave me my first Bible. I remember the smell of that black covered King James Bible and when I cracked open the first page I could read that this Bible was given directly to me. My very own Bible. It wasn’t until I was about 30 years old that my wife and I began to study the Hebrew Roots of the Christian Faith. We began observing the seventh day Sabbath and gradually began keeping the Holy Feasts we read about in Leviticus 23. Up until this point I thought I was saved. I felt like I was saved but a lot of Messianic teachers started to challenge this notion by saying that we aren’t really truly saved until we are in the kingdom. This caused a panic in my soul as I wrestled with this most crucial doctrine. When are we saved? After becoming a Pastor I still wrestled with this issue. Over several years of study and asking for wisdom from the Lord finally I believe the pieces of the puzzle are coming together. After teaching on this subject to my own congregation a couple years ago I have received enough questions by email and through conversations with messianic believers so confused, as I was about this issue, that I am putting this teaching in an article. Although this will not serve as an exhaustive study on the subject I hope to draw enough connections to help rid a little bit of the confusion. Okay so to start this out we have to define some terms that are used in the New Testament centered around the subject of salvation. I am sorry of you think these are “churchy terms” but they are what we read in the New Testament so for the sake of this study please bare with me. I promise it will all work out. If not I will give a full refund for this article ( LOL ). Kidding aside let’s get started! The first term we have to define is Justification. This is a big word but at its essence is quite simple. To be justified according to the Bible is to be in God’s sight as “just as if I never sinned.” You are in full right standing with God as if you never sinned or committed any transgression at all. I kind of view this as a chalkboard full of marks against you wiped clean. This is an event and not a process. It occurs the moment you put your full trust in Yeshua as your Lord and Savior, casting all of your sins upon the work of the cross and dedicating your life to please the Father. This is a gift, accomplished solely through the blood of Yeshua as He exchanges your righteousness, which is as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6), with His righteousness. How can we see this in the Old Testament? We can see this clearly through the life and ministry of Joseph, a stark example of the Messiah in the Torah. Pharaoh viewed the Hebrews as abominations as they were shepherds (Gen. 46:34). They would never have favor or audience with the Pharaoh because they were unclean and detestable. However, through Joseph (who was a Hebrew also but hidden) Jacob and his sons were given favor and high estate with the Pharaoh and best of the Land. Without Joseph who saved Egypt The Sons of Jacob had no chance. In like manner, the savior of the world, Yeshua, was slain for the sins of the world so that we who were dead in our trespasses could be accepted as sons and daughters of the kingdom. Yeshua is our Joseph to the Father. Without His righteousness we have no standing with the Father. We are detestable and unclean. Now let’s look at what the New Testament says about Justification: Romans 5:17-18 “17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Yeshua Messiah.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life.” Notice in this passage that Paul likens our justification as a free gift. This is not earned as much as Joseph’s mercy toward his brethren was not earned. It is this event in someone’s life that the Bible describes as being saved or justified, not of works lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9). Romans 3:23-24,26,27-28 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua: 26 To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Yeshua. 27 Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” It is clear through the writings of Paul that the Law does not justify us but has a unique purpose in the life of the believer. Justification is starting your class with a 100% grade average. You are setup for victory and blessing. It is by grace and grace alone. It is a gift, the Bible tells us, and a gift you can’t earn or pay for but only receive. So how does one receive the justification and forgiveness of sins that is described here? I don’t think it is an exact formula but a turning of your heart and mind by fully abandoning yourself to the Lord and His mercy towards you. Here is a wonderful outline of how this should happen: [Rom 10:9-13 KJV] 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Yeshua, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. No flaming hoops to jump through or 13 steps just crying out to the Lord. It is meant to be easy and not burdensome. From the drunk on the bar stool to the philosophy professor it is the same gift to be received. It is a free gift to us but it came at a terrible price. Religious men have tried to add conditions and disclaimers to this gift making it very heavy and cumbersome. Like the sect of the Pharisees that went behind Paul who preached a free gift of salvation message and many gentiles responded, but then were told that they weren’t saved yet until they were circumcised by the custom of Moses. Paul was outraged! Galatians 1:6 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel…” We read in Acts 15 just what this “elite” group of Jews were preaching: Acts 15:1 “And certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, Except you be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” This brings me to the second term we have to define which is the term, Sanctification. This is the part that I feel Christianity by in large stumbles over because of a lack of understanding that God does want those that are saved or justified to walk in holiness. There is an understanding to some degree, for instance if a drug addict became justified by repenting their sins and committing their life to the Lord, then the church leadership would certainly disciple that person to continue walking in salvation. But when it comes to keeping the instructions of the Lord as revealed through the Torah, we are generally told in many Christian denominations that keeping commandments are not necessary anymore. Sanctification is not an event but a process. This process begins once you have been justified and not before. What is the Torah example of this? We can clearly see that Israel was saved and delivered from Egyptian bondage, which is our old sinful nature, and this was only through God’s mercy and grace. Israel did not earn this but through the love of God He heard their cries for freedom and set them free. Then Israel is taken to a mountain where they are given instructions for righteous living, also known as the Torah. Over and over again as God is revealing His instructions He tells them that He is the God who sanctifies them: [Exo 31:13 ESV] 13 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. [Lev 20:8 ESV] 8 Keep my statutes and do them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you. [Lev 22:32 ESV] 32 And you shall not profane my holy name, that I may be sanctified among the people of Israel. I am the LORD who sanctifies you, We also see this in the ministry of Yeshua when He sets the adulterous woman free. He is the only one that could have pronounced a death sentence on that woman but he chose mercy. He forgave her (justified) and then He tells her to “go thy way and sin no more” (John 8:11), which is the process of sanctification. Let’s look at some of the letters of the Apostles to see some more examples of this concept: [1Th 5:23 ESV] 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Yeshua Messiah. How do you keep your spirit, soul and body blameless before the Lord? If justification is all there is then why does the New Testament speak of keeping and guarding that salvation? Many criticize those that keep a kosher diet as being legalistic and not a matter of salvation. I agree that it is not a matter of justification but I strongly believe that it is a matter of your sanctification as we keep our “bodies” blameless as much as we can before His return. [Phil 2:12-13, 15-16 ESV] 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. … 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. Here in this passage from Philippians we read about being blameless again in connection with obedience and holding fast to the word of life, God’s instructions. In so doing, you will stand without blemish in the midst of a crooked generation as lights to the world. If you are doing what everyone else is doing you are not a light or shining forth the good works God has called us to do. Have you ever wondered why Paul says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling? If justification was the only thing that mattered then why fear? Why work anything out at all. Aren’t we living in grace and therefore we don’t have to follow the commands of God? [Jde 1:4 KJV] 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Yeshua Messiah. Some versions of Jude 1:4 state that some people, believers mind you, are turning the grace of God into a “license to sin.” So the Sabbath doesn’t matter anymore and our diet doesn’t matter because we live in grace, right? He is the Lord that sanctifies you! With what? [Jhn 17:17 KJV] 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. [Psa 119:142 KJV] 142 Thy righteousness [is] an everlasting righteousness, and thy law [is] the truth. [Eph 5:26 KJV] 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Just as we read in the Torah that through the commands God sanctifies Israel, guess what, that same standard is what He sanctifies His body of believers today! He sanctifies us through the Word and the Spirit, which you will never see working separately. The Word and the Spirit always work together as a dynamic duo, just like Faith and Works! [Jas 2:14, 17-18, 20, 22, 26 ESV] 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? … 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. … 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? … 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; … 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. [Eph 6:17 ESV] 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, The life of a believer is constantly balancing the Spirit and the Word as well as Faith and Works, in their lives. You need both not one or the other. I see a dangerous pattern emerging among my New Covenant brethren. I see those that are heavily resting on works denying the event of justification in the life of believers because they might not keep all of the 613 commands of Torah. Furthermore, they teach that these believers are actually not believers at all and will be cast in the lake of fire one day. For those brethren I would remind you of Matthew 5:19: [Mat 5:19 ESV] 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Notice our Messiah did not say that they would be burning in a lake of fire but simply considered least in the Kingdom, BUT they will be there. Why? Because they are Justified by the blood of the Messiah through Faith and not of works. Maybe they didn’t get very far in the sanctification part but who are we to judge that! Do you have hatred in your heart? Have you ever lied even a little white lie? Have you stole anything regardless of value? Have you lusted in your heart for anyone, because Yeshua said that if you lust in your heart you commit adultery. According to the Bible liars, thieves, and adulterous will not be let in the Kingdom! Be careful because in the same measure we judge, we will be judged. In other words, if you are harshly judging others you will be judged harshly as well. I don’t know about you but I need MERCY! Perhaps this is where the Bible talks about that there will be many who are first that will become last and last that will become first, simply because of the haughtiness and merciless judgments we make on our fellow brethren. For those that have been justified but don’t think much about sanctification, my warning to you is to not make it a license to sin. Our goal in life isn’t to make it in the Kingdom by a thread but to become like Yeshua. Don’t you want to be considered “great in the kingdom?” Do you realize that you can suffer loss in the Kingdom and miss out on great rewards and being close to the very One that created all things? [1Co 3:10-15 ESV] 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw– 13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. [Luk 12:47-48 ESV] 47 And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. 48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. Now the last term to be defined is Glorification. This is also an event that takes place when we, as believers are finally in the Kingdom with Yeshua in our glorified bodies. This is the fulfillment, the very summit of a believer’s journey. This is when there will be no more sickness, no more death, and no more sin (Rev. 7, 21). This is the day that Paul so desperately was longing for speaking of our current sinful state in comparison to what we will become one day: [Rom 7:24 ESV] 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? [Rom 8:23 ESV] 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. [1Co 15:50-54 KJV] 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. The Apostle John wrote of the same thing: [1Jo 3:2-3 KJV] 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. In the book of Romans we can also see the connection with first event of Justification and the ultimate event of glorification, the finished product: [Rom 8:16-17, 29-30 KJV] 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Messiah; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together. … 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Now what does any of this have to do with a grill? Okay so let’s put all of this together in an easy to understand parable. Yeshua liked to teach in parables, so here I go giving it a shot. Justification is like going to the store and being handed a brand new grill. Is was more than you could afford but someone else paid for that grill and gave it to you, free of charge. You are so blessed and grateful for your new grill. You sing and giggle all the way home and share your grill with your whole family, explaining how it was a gift. You once did not have a grill but now you have one! Your neighbor had one that you could smell cooking all summer long and you wished and wished you could have a grill like your neighbor and finally it was here! Now, not only do you have a new grill but your whole family get’s to benefit from your new awesome grill. Time goes by and you are still excited about your grill but as you smell your neighbor’s grill cooking you notice that yours does not give off that same aroma. You think you got cheated or maybe you were given the wrong denomination or oops I meant brand. You walk over to your neighbor’s house and ask him where he got his grill. You realize he got it at the same place as you, so you ask what brand it was, and sure enough it was the same brand. So why was his grill smelling so good and producing yummy delicious steaks and yours was not? Your neighbor asks you if you had put your grill together yet? You say no, it is still in the box. Your neighbor chuckles and says you have to put it together in order to use it, silly. You feel stupid and a little betrayed by the store for not telling you about putting it together. Your neighbor goes on by saying that it is really simple, all you have to do is open up the box and read the instructions, the rest will make sense once you start the process. So you are super excited again and you rip open the box that was collecting dust in the garage and you start to follow the instructions for the first time! Wow, everything starts to make sense and the grill is closer to being ready to fire up a sizzling steak than ever before! You can almost taste it! Finally, after a long process of getting the grill and putting it all together with the instructions you grab a delicious steak and cook it to perfection. What a sweet smelling aroma and what a rewarding finish! You see the grill represents your salvation through justification. You didn’t earn the grill, it was originally given to you as a gift. All you had to do is receive it! Then you realized that you needed to open up the box, which is the Word of God, and follow the instructions, which is the Torah. Without the instructions you still have a grill but it isn’t a pleasing aroma to the Father, like your neighbor’s grill which is in full use. Our lives are attractive to people when we are doing God’s Word. It draws people to us just like the smell of a steak cooking on the grill. This is the sanctification process. There are so many believers that have a grill and it is collecting dust in a box. So many believers don’t own a Bible let alone open it up and actually do what it says. This is unprofitable for you and your family as none can benefit from a grill in a box. Finally, the steak is cooked to perfection. This is a picture of glorification. This is when we do what we are made to do. One day we will be there in the Kingdom but the more we dig into the instructions and follow His ways now we will actually act and produce fruit as though we are already in the Kingdom. Kind of like Phineas who was given the covenant of peace before it is actually fulfilled in the kingdom to come (Num. 25:12). Justification is an event (I was saved) = FAITH Sanctification is a process (I am being saved) = WORKS Glorification is the final product (I will be saved)= Faith is established I am that I am- Asher HaYah Va HoVeh Va Yavoh Who was and is and is to come I am the Lord who sanctifies you… In conclusion, please if you haven’t gotten a grill please take the time to pray to the Father to forgive you your sins and to accept Yeshua as your Lord and Savior. Receive your free gift of salvation today! If you have already done this then please go get your grill box (Bible) and open it up and follow the instructions so that you, your family, your friends, and neighbors will benefit from your living sacrifice, a sweet smelling aroma unto the throne of God. If you have been studying the instructions for a while please be like the good neighbor who gently points people with your lifestyle and stop telling believers they don’t have a grill but inspire them to open the box and read the instructions. Who knows you might be invited to their next cookout and taste the rewards of discipleship. May God richly bless you with His Shalom. Fighting like Cats & Dogs

Messianic Homeschooling & Hebrew Roots Homeschool Curriculum 0 Fighting Like Cats & Dogs Posted on July 21, 2015 by Joel Allen 21 JUL An Article by Joel Allen   Ever since I can remember I have always been a part of a church to some degree. As a small child I grew up falling asleep on the pews at late night prayer meetings. I remember the sights and sounds of worship and prayers. As I grew older my family was a part of several different Christian churches. I have seen church splits, family feuds, and church politics at it’s very worst. About 8-9 years ago we left the Christian church to pursue the “messianic” way of studying and walking out the scriptures. I thought the politics and fighting and drama would finally end. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was deeply disappointed to find that this issue existed in the Messianic circles as well. Clearly this was a human problem and not a denominational one. Everywhere I turned it seemed everyone was fighting like cats and dogs not loving their neighbors as themselves.             I began to think recently about that popular idiom in our culture, “fighting like cats and dogs.” So immersed in our culture, this idiom became a popular movie, posing the dogs as the loyal protectors of mankind and the cats as the evil nemesis trying to take over the world. This silent battle went on without humans knowing what was going on for the most part but the movie certainly painted a great picture of the key differences between dogs and cats. Now my purpose in this article is not to take sides with one animal group over another or offend cat lovers or dog lovers. My family has had lots of pets ranging from horses to dogs and cats to even alpacas. I personally am a dog person although I do enjoy the antics of cats. However through the years I have noticed extreme differences between the species that probably spurred on the creation of the idiom, “fighting like cats and dogs.” I also recently noticed that believers carry the same characteristics as cats and dogs and this could be the reason why there is so much turmoil in the body of Messiah at large. So let’s have a little fun and look at some key differences between dogs and cats and see how this effects the Body of Messiah. More importantly ask yourself which characteristic you may possess and pray about how this may be helping or hurting your brothers and sisters in Messiah. Dogs generally are more loyal than cats: Let’s face it dogs are considered “man’s best friend” for a reason. They are loyal to their owners while cats by in large do not show the characteristics of loyalty. There are plenty of movies about dogs and their incredible loyalty and so many inspirational stories of dogs sticking by their owners even in extreme situations. When the going gets tough dogs will stay by their owners but the same cannot be said about cats (remember these are generalizations. I know there are always amazing exceptional stories out there). Which characteristic do you mostly possess? Be brutally honest. How many times have you played the cat role and maybe left a congregation or fellowship when the circumstances got rough. Do you run at the first sign of disagreement? In the Hebrew roots circles we have people fighting like cats and dogs about the right calendar, how to pronounce the name of the Lord (oops I said Lord), how and when to celebrate the Biblical Feasts, and so much more. At the first sign of trouble we tuck tail and run instead of remaining loyal to our leadership and/or families we convocate with. Loyalty in fellowships is few and far between these days. We have too many cats and not enough dogs, if you know what I mean. Okay moving on… Dogs will protect and defend their masters even to the point of death: Other than a few Youtube videos showing cats attacking predators on behalf of small children, cats generally are not known for defending their masters. In fact, they are built and wired to escape quickly and silently. Dogs bark loud and make a lot of noise warning any potential predators to beware. This can sometimes be mistaken for being insensitive or that the dog is mean spirited especially to guests that haven’t gotten to know the dog yet. Congregations and fellowships need more dogs that will prefer one another and protect one another instead of silently disappearing when there is a sign of danger or disagreement. Dogs are trainable while cats remain resistant to learning new things: Are you trainable? Can you receive correction? Dogs can receive training and correction while cats seem to refuse any sort of training whatsoever. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 12:1, “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” Don’t be stupid (I didn’t say it the Bible did), be like a dog and receive training and correction and you will be knowledgeable and wise. Proverbs 15:32 “Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.” Especially in Messianic circles it seems there is a resistance to leadership especially pastors or shepherds. It’s a shame that pastors/shepherds are a gift to the congregation to bring correction and discipline yet they are replaced by conferences and teachers. We need teachers but we also need shepherds. Have you ever seen a cat shepherd a flock of sheep? But you have seen dogs that shepherd sheep and they do it quite well. Dogs love correction because they know the rewards that follow. Cats seek only the rewards. Dogs are pack oriented while cats are solitary animals: Do you seek fellowship with others or are you a loner? Dogs are pack hunters and thrive in a pack or group environment while cats prefer to be alone. Now I have to admit that I am someone that prefers to be in solitude but the Spirit of God within me provokes me to seek fellowship and some of the most powerful experiences with God’s presence have been in group corporate worship. This is when the Body comes together and the Gifts and Callings of God start to work dynamically as the Spirit wills. Hebrews 10:25 ” Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Dogs will be at services as often as the doors are open because they are stronger together and they recognize it. Cats will resist fellowshipping probably making up crazy doctrine that supports being alone. Dogs are incredible for finding the lost and discerning danger: Notice policeman and bomb squads use dogs and not cats to smell out missing persons or potential bomb threats. Airports even can use dogs to sniff out drugs but cats not so much. Dogs have been known to track missing people in mountains and forests for miles. It doesn’t matter if it is in a blizzard or monsoon, they are tenacious and unrelenting in their search for the lost. When was the last time you talked to a stranger about God? Do you turn your nose up like a cat and go in solitude or are you relentless like a dog in pursuit of a lost child? That dog doesn’t care if the lost person smells bad or pronounces the name of our Messiah differently, it will never stop until the master calls off the search. Can we say the same about us? Are we cats, too busy licking our own wounds or are we like dogs passionately in pursuit of the lost? A little fun fact for you; a police trained Doberman Pinscher was recorded tracking a thief over 100 miles across the Great Karroo in South Africa by scent alone. Wow talk about relentless! Dogs can be trained to help those in need Have you ever heard of a “seeing eye cat?” Of course not! But you have heard of a “seeing eye dog” because dogs of various breeds are trained on a regular basis to help people with disabilities. Dogs act as a guide for the blind, an encourager for the depressed, ears for the deaf, an alert for various illnesses like seizure disorders. Dogs or I should say “working dogs” can be trained to retrieve items that someone with a disability may not be able to. Some working dogs can be trained to help those with walkers, wheelchairs, or crutches and can be used to bring balance for unsure walkers. Cats do not apply. I have never seen “working cats.” Are you like working dogs, helping those in need. Are you a guide for the blind or a help to bring balance to those that are struggling or do you have more catlike characteristics and would rather not get involved? Here are some characteristics of cats that should bring the point home: Cats are finicky- It seems very difficult to please cats sometimes. Are you that way? Are you constantly picking out what is wrong instead of rolling up your sleeves and helping? If you are like a cat, no fellowship seems to fit you as you always seem to find fault in everyone and everything. Cats like attention & love only on their terms- Does this sound familiar? All of us want love and friendship but cats will only seek such things on their terms. Do you act the same way? Some of us only show love and friendship when we want something or when it is convenient. Proverbs 18:24 says “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly:” The Bible also says that “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” (Prov. 17:17) The Bible seems to uphold more of the dog-like characteristic of friendship and love. In Conclusion: It is obvious through this small overview of the difference between cats and dogs that we need a lot more dogs. We need believers that are loyal and protect their fellow brethren. We need believers that want to come together and fellowship, especially on the Sabbaths and Feasts. We need believers that are passionately relentless for reaching the lost and helping those in need. Why are we fighting like cats and dogs? The cats among us need to recognize their catlike traits and repent…except for the obvious trait of potty training faster than dogs. No seriously! I find it fascinating to know that domesticated cats more than likely came from Egypt about 4,000 years ago. In fact, ancient Egyptians worshiped cats not dogs. Isn’t it interesting that Israel was delivered from Egypt and the whole struggle through the wilderness was to get those catlike characteristics (Egypt) out of Israel. Even up to the Jordan, when Israel was faced with entering into the Land of Promise, the cat dominant traits came out. The relentless working dog would believe and heed the orders of the Master but the cats would rather nap in the wilderness for 40 years. Remember it was one person in particular that YHVH said had a different spirit in him. This one person possessed the right “dog-like” characteristics when all others (besides Joshua) would rather go back to cat worshiping Egypt! Have you guessed who it was yet? His name was Caleb. Do you know what the name means in Hebrew? Caleb is Strong’s Number H3612 and means, “Dog.” [Num 14:24 KJV] 24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.   This entry was posted in Gospels, Torah and tagged caleb, cats, dogs, egypt.
