Who are the LOST TRIBES of Israel?

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate Who Are The “Lost Tribes of Israel”? After King David’s son Solomon died in the tenth century B.C., the internal strife and sin divided their single united kingdom into two separate entities. The Northern Kingdom was called Israel and included ten of the twelve tribes: Reuben, Simeon, Manasseh, Issachar, Zebulun, Ephraim, Dan, Asher, Naphtali, and Gad. The Southern Kingdom was called Judah and included the tribes of Benjamin and Judah. Immersed throughout both kingdoms were members of the priestly family of Levi. Israel didn’t heed any of the warnings to return to God given her by the prophets, and in 722 B.C., Assyria conquered the Northern Kingdom of Israel, taking captive and deporting the members of the ten tribes. These tribes dispersed and became absorbed into the surrounding pagan cultures – for the most part. There was a small, nearly-invisible remnant that continued to maintain a form of Jewish identity, many of whom immigrated south into the kingdom of Judah. The Babylonians destroyed the Temple Solomon built, and took many of the people captive. Around 445 B.C., Nehemiah led a remnant of the Jewish people back to Jerusalem and rebuilt its walls and gates. Over 500 years later, in 70 A.D., the Romans destroyed the Second Temple and, again, Jewish people were driven from their homeland and dispersed throughout the known world. Celebrating on Earth and in Heaven

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate Celebrating on Earth and in Heaven! I recently was reviewing the results from our Medical Clinic efforts in the past year. And I was moved by all God has done – and continues to do – to meet both physical and spiritual needs through the work of Jewish Voice. In eight Medical Clinics – three in Ethiopia, three in Zimbabwe and two eye clinics in Israel – we were able to serve 60,122 patients! This included 447 eye surgeries for cataracts and trachoma, 621 other surgeries, and dental care for 8,807 people. Nearly 29,000 LifeStraws were distributed, providing a year’s worth of clean, healthy water to thousands of individuals and hundreds of families. And more than 11,000 people received needed eyeglasses. In our Israel Clinics, we were able to help 791 elderly Holocaust survivors. Most important of all, more than 12,000 of our Clinic patients visited our Prayer Rooms to receive personal prayer, and 1,612 professed new faith in Yeshua the Messiah! All of this (especially the new personal relationships with the Lord) brings great joy to my heart, as I know it brings joy to God’s heart. As Jesus said in Luke 15:7: . . . there will be more joy in heaven over one repenting sinner than over the ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. - A great part of my joy – and I trust part of the joy the Lord feels as well – is in knowing that all this physical and spiritual caregiving was made possible by the prayers and gifts of our friends and partners. For your part in this – for your compassion and support – I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Covenant Consern

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate Covenant concern I’m often asked, Why doesn’t the covenant God made with Moses cover the salvation of all Jewish people? This question refers to the Mosaic Covenant, God’s law and standards for the ancient Jewish people. Under this covenant, which is a corporate covenant for the Nation of Israel, there’s no plan for individual salvation. But it does clearly point to the coming Messiah, to whom the Jewish people would look for redemption and liberation. Unfortunately, when Yeshua (Jesus) did come, the Jewish people were under Roman rule and tyranny. They expected Him to be a physical deliverer – a military and political leader. But Yeshua came to bring spiritual salvation. Even in the Old Covenant Scriptures, Jesus is presented as the only means of personal salvation. Read Isaiah 53, for example. You’ll see this is not just a New Covenant concept. This covenant of salvation, established only through Yeshua, was seen by the prophets of old literally centuries before Jesus came. So you see, while the Mosaic Covenant provided standards of conduct before God, it’s the New Covenant in Yeshua that brings us personal salvation and the removal of sin. He alone is the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). And there’s no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). This is true for the Jew first and then the Gentile (Romans 1:16). Transforming lives via your love and compassion

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate Thank you for transforming lives through your love and compassion! Here’s how your generous support is being multiplied to transform even more lives It seems obvious that lives are immediately transformed when a Jewish Voice Medical Clinic gives someone back their sight through cataract surgery. Or provides clean, healthy water. Or treats a serious and painful dental infection. But sometimes Jewish Voice Clinics transform people’s lives in ways that are more than just immediate. Sometimes those lives are transformed in ways that continue to impact others for many years to come … Demes: Inspired to do more The first time our Jewish Voice medical teams saw Demes, he was a shoeshine boy at a community clinic where we held a Medical Outreach in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Partially deaf, and from a slum area, Demes did not seem to have many opportunities in life. But Demes was inspired by what he saw happening in our Outreach, and he asked if he could help. For a few dollars a week, he became a patient assistant and translator. This simple experience transformed Demes’ life forever! Thrilled that he could actually help others, and moved by the love and compassion he saw expressed by Jewish Voice workers and volunteers, Demes decided he would do something more with his life. Studying hard, Demes achieved high marks on exams and got into dental school in Addis Ababa. In two years he will graduate as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). But he’s already traveling throughout Ethiopia and Zimbabwe as a dental hygienist with our team, treating people with dental problems in the name of Yeshua. Selam: Reaching out to her own people Selam is a young Jewish Believer who – like Demes – also started as a JVMI helper, escorting patients at Jewish Voice Medical Clinics in her community in Ethiopia. Catching a vision for all she could do to help her people, Selam entered nursing school. Now a nurse, she’s able to both help her community and support her family, while also leading the clean water education efforts at many of our Jewish Voice Clinics. Because of her work, Selam is both preventing and treating disease, to bring physical health to her people, while also sharing the Good News of the Messiah. Your support multiplies the impact of transformed lives Indeed, there are many layers of help provided by our Jewish Voice ministry efforts in Africa. Some people are physically healed from long-term afflictions. Others receive the spiritual healing that comes from a first-time relationship with Yeshua. And for some, there is all this PLUS the opportunity to find meaning by showing the love of Jesus to others in practical ways. All of this is part of Jewish Voice ministry. And it’s all made possible by you and the many other generous partners who pray for this ministry and give to multiply our efforts so that even more Jewish people can be reached with help, healing and hope. Hebrew School with Rabbi Jack

Since the focus of this edition of Jewish Voice Today is on the Last Days, we thought we’d teach you a bit about the Hebrew words for “Last Days.” Reading right to left as is the standard for reading Hebrew, it looks like this: It is pronounced, “ah-cha-REET haya-MEEM.” So, what’s so significant about this? Several things, actually. The first appearance of those words in the Scriptures is found in Genesis 49:1 which says, “Jacob called his sons and said to them: Gather together so that I can tell you what will happen to you in the last days.” While the story in Genesis 49 is commonly viewed as Jacob’s blessing over the 12 sons, it is also very much a prophecy specifically regarding what God will do and how He will use these tribes in the Last Days. Of particular interest is the future of the Tribe of Judah, found in Genesis 49:10: The scepter will not pass from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until He to whom it belongs will come. To him will be the obedience of the peoples. Scholars have long regarded the term, “Shiloh” as a title of the Messiah. In other words, earthly kings would rule over Israel and Judah, and then the Messiah from the line of Judah would come, and He would rule eternally as King. But there’s something else going on here: the “Last Days” are also mentioned in Isaiah 2:2, which says, “In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it” (NIV). The verses further go on to say that the Messiah from the line of Judah will bring peace during those Last Days. Why is that so significant? It’s significant because a major reason why Jewish people reject Yeshua as their Messiah is because they believe that the Messiah will bring peace when he comes. When Yeshua came 2,000 years ago, He didn’t bring that peace. Therefore, they say, He can’t be the Messiah. But what they don’t take into account is that God says in His Word that such peace would be brought not until the “ah-cha-REET haya-MEEM,” or Last Days. Was it the “Last Days” when Yeshua came the first time? Of course not, and so indeed, had Yeshua brought peace then, He would have gone against the timing that God put in place. That’s why, when the Last Days do come, Yeshua the Messiah from the line of Judah will bring peace, right on schedule. That would be “God’s” schedule, not “man’s” schedule. When the Last Days do come, Yeshua will bring peace...right on schedule!   Get the "Teachings of the Torah"  Study the Torah the first five books of the Bible through the eyes of a first-century disciple. “Teachings of the Torah” invites you into the questions, stories, and interpretations that prove the Bible is a living book. Gods Unfinished Business with the Pharisees

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate God's Unfinished Business with the Pharisees Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn. - Matthew 13:30 (NKJV) JERUSALEM – A spiritual sifting is going on here today, as God prepares His people for our Messiah’s return in the final days. The Lord is about to separate the wheat from the tares for the final harvest (Matthew 13:30, NKJV). During my travels to Israel over the last 30 years, I have witnessed the gulf widening between religious and secular Jews, particularly in Jerusalem, where it all began (and where the Prophets say it will all end). During a recent year, more than 17,000 residents—mostly secular—left Jerusalem and were replaced by nearly 11,000 newcomers, most of them religious Jews. Israel was founded in 1948 by secular Jews hoping to create a haven for all persecuted Jews, and to create the Millennium without waiting for the Messiah to come. Jewish Voice Ministries has put together this Intercessory Prayer Guide for Israel that provides focused, targeted requests to help you pray for the nation of God’s People. We hope this prayer guide can help both Messianic Jews and Christians pray their support for Israel. Download Now On the other hand, the Orthodox—descendants of the Pharisees who opposed Yeshua—are in the forefront of Israelis that do not follow Yeshua who are still longing for the Messiah to come. They will be crucial in the End Times as the only Jews eager to resume the altar sacrifices in the rebuilt Temple, which is mentioned by Yeshua (Matthew 24:15) and the book of Revelation. Of course, many Messianic Jews will have no desire to perform the blood sacrifices, since Yeshua has offered the final one. “There is a polarization going on, religious and secular,” I was told by Rabbi Yaakov Frankel, who runs a yeshiva for Jews returning to the faith. “But this must happen before Messiah comes.” Many other Orthodox rabbis echo this teaching from the Talmud. While the Talmud was composed by men, not God, it is helpful for us to know its teachings in order to understand why religious Jews are so excited about the coming of the long-delayed Messiah whose name they don’t yet know. There is a polarization going on, religious and secular, but this must happen before Messiah comes. - Rabbi Yaakov Frankel The Talmud says that the Messiah will come when the world is either entirely religious or entirely wicked. Think of it as a “zero sum game.” If all are wicked, the Messiah no longer has reason to delay coming and judging the world. If all are religious, Messiah needn’t wait any longer to come and usher in 1,000 years of world peace. But I have asked several Orthodox rabbis if there might be a third possibility—what if the world becomes polarized between those fully religious and those stubbornly pagan, with nobody left on the fence? Yes, the rabbis replied, this would bring the Messiah. We are not bound by the Talmud, but God’s sifting is going on before our very eyes, as attested by the New Testament. “Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth?” Yeshua asked the disciples. “I tell you, not at all, but rather division . . . father will be divided against son . . . mother against daughter. . . ” (See Luke 12:51-53, NKJV). He was predicting the rupture of Jewish families, as some Jews would accept Him while others would not. This is as true today as it was 2,000 years ago, and it is accelerating rapidly. In this way, the Lord is working today to reverse the gravest religious apostasy in history, following the Emancipation of the Jews in Europe in the 1800s and the Holocaust of 1939-1945. After the recovery of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War in June 1967, religious Jews sensing the arrival of the Messianic age began roving the streets, looking for fallenaway Jews to invite home for “just one Shabbat,” and then another. Thousands of Jews have come back from agnosticism through this baal t’shuvah (master of return) movement. Today their children and grandchildren are becoming the second and third generations. During my fourth visit to Israel, my wife Shirah and I had dinner at the home of Eric Mahr in northern Jerusalem, within sight of two Arab settlements. Mahr, a baal t’shuvah from Buffalo who made aliyah with his wife and children, discussed the change of heart that Jews must experience for the Messiah to come. True, Jews must do more than return to the Law; all men must embrace Yeshua Ha-Mashiach. But even as teachers of the Law, religious Israelis face bitter hostility from their own fallen-away people. Like Jonah in his day, secular Israelis are running from God and their calling as His messengers. And so as we watch the hand of God separating the wheat from the tares, we must be wise. The return of Jews from atheism to Judaism mustn’t be viewed solely as a return to “the slavery of the Law” (much as it is, with many Orthodox still persecuting Jewish Believers in Yeshua). It is more than that. It is the process of God’s building up of the ancient Pharisee sect so that it will finally come full circle and, in time, stop rejecting Yeshua of Nazareth. Let’s not forget that the Church at Jerusalem was actually a Messianic Jewish congregation that met in someone’s house but returned daily to the Temple. These Jews found no trouble in fitting Yeshua into their existing Pharisee Judaism. Neither will today’s Orthodox, as more and more of them become secret Believers in Yeshua, while continuing to attend their old synagogues, waiting for the others to also be touched by the Ruach ha-Kodesh, in God’s sovereign time. His winnowing fan is in His hand,” said Yochanan the Immerser, “and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn. . . - Luke 3:17, NKJV Author Anthony Cardinale Tags Messianic Jewish Biblical Teaching Categories Messianic Judaism Teachings Share this article Related Articles Signs of the Times Update on the Building of the Third Temple Serving the Scattered Tribes of Israel Gog Arising? God Arising ?

Skip to main content Toggle navigation Donate Gog Arising? Is Gog emerging in front of our eyes? We may find out very soon. One thing is clear, however: the Lord wants us all to remain alert and on our knees. In his now-classic 1706 Bible commentary, Matthew Henry referenced the variety of opinions that existed among biblical scholars concerning which nations to which Ezekiel the Prophet was referring when he spoke of the great End-Time enemies of Israel known as “Gog and Magog.” According to Henry, some scholars, “…think they find them afar off, in Scythia, Tartary, and Russia. Others think they find them nearer the land of Israel, in Syria, and Asia the Less.”1 The term “Asia the Less,” refers to the region now occupied by Turkey. Even 300 years ago, biblical scholars couldn’t agree if Ezekiel was talking about a Last-Days assault of Israel led by Russia or Turkey. This debate continues today. Many popular Bible teachers claim that Gog will come from Russia, while others claim that Ezekiel’s prophecy actually points to Turkey. Old Testament biblical scholar Michael S. Heiser recently stated, “Identifying Gog as Russia is exegetically indefensible…Genesis 10:2 located Meshech and Tubal in Anatolia (modern Turkey), not Russia.”2 Get the Prophetic Mysteries Package This package includes: 7 Keys to Unlock the Prophetic Mysteries of Israel House Blessing Mezuzah Unlocking the Prophetic Mysteries of Israel two-DVD set Lion of Judah Tapestry Get Products Whether Gog is from Russia or Turkey, both nations are presently being led by undisputed dictators who could each very easily fit the Gog profile. In my books, Islamic Antichrist and Mideast Beast, I have also argued that Ezekiel’s Gog comes from the region of modern-day Turkey and not Russia. What is so fascinating however, is that whether Gog is from Russia or Turkey, both nations are presently being led by undisputed dictators who could each very easily fit the Gog profile. When Joel C. Rosenberg was recently asked if Russian strong-man Vladimir Putin could be the prophesied Gog, he said: “It’s too early to draw such a conclusion, though I admit Putin is certainly ‘Gog-esque.’”3 Rosenberg may be correct. Yet since the failed Turkish coup of July 2016, many other students of Bible prophecy have been looking to Turkish President Erdogan as a possible Gog candidate. Rather amazingly, the geopolitical landscape and climate in both Russia and Turkey are uniquely aligning with many of the descriptions found in Ezekiel’s prophecy. It is as if the Lord is orchestrating world events to keep us all on our toes! Because this prophecy will have such a profound impact on the State of Israel, we would all do well to pay very careful—and more importantly, prayerful—attention. On one hand, the chaos in Syria and Iraq has led to an unprecedented Russian military presence in the Middle East. The potential prophetic relevance of this is compounded by Russia’s alliance with Iran, currently the greatest threat to Israel’s existence, and a nation that features prominently in Ezekiel’s prophecy. This all comes at a time when Iran has expanded its arc of control over the capital cities of Baghdad, Beirut, and Damascus. No one questions Iran’s long-term intentions toward Israel. At a recent pro-Palestinian gathering in Tehran in February 2017, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to Israel as “one of the dirty chapters of history that will soon be closed, with the grace of Allah.” Of course, when various Muslim dictators threaten to eliminate Israel, no one is surprised; but what exactly is Russia’s end game in the region, specifically, with regard to Israel? We may find out soon. Putin’s defenders say he is in Syria primarily out of simple economic self-interest—namely control over the various energy pipelines that crisscross the region. This is certainly true, but does Putin have greater regional goals? Might Putin have his eye on Israel’s vast natural gas reserves? Interestingly, Ezekiel’s prophecy specifically says that Gog’s motive for invading Israel is “to capture spoil and to seize plunder” (38:12). Certainly there is much here on which to focus for prophecy watchers and Israel’s intercessors. Get "A Rabbi Looks at the Last Days" Few topics captivate our minds or fill our hearts with fear like the end times. Get Product Rather amazingly, the geopolitical landscape and climate in both Russia and Turkey are uniquely aligning with many of the descriptions found in Ezekiel’s prophecy. On the other hand, we have Turkey, a nation led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Since the failed coup of July 2016, Turkish authorities have arrested or detained roughly 160,000 people. While this includes virtually all of Erdogan’s political opponents, the primary focus has been on supporters of Fethullah Gülen, a highly influential Turkish imam whose followers were largely responsible for Erdogan’s rise to power. Erdogan’s crackdown on the Gulenists has many eerie parallels to what become known as the Night of Long Knives, when Adolph Hitler ordered the assassination of those within the Nazi paramilitary organization called the Brownshirts. Those within this organization were among Hitler’s earliest and strongest allies, yet Hitler felt they needed to be eliminated in order to consolidate his absolute control over Germany. This is almost identical to what Erdogan has done in Turkey. Now that all of his adversaries are either dead or in jail, Erdogan has completed his plan to become the absolute dictator of Turkey. Who is this man? It was Erdogan’s right-wing Islamist party that contributed to the creation of ISIS. There is more than ample evidence Turkey provided much of the support ISIS needed in its early days, allowing the organization to take root in Syria and Iraq. Despite the many atrocities of this group, they were the perfect junkyard dog Turkey could use in its larger regional war with Bashar al- Assad, Iran, and the Kurds. Erdogan is a supporter of radical Sunni jihadists now in control of the most strategically important piece of property in the region and the largest army in the Middle East. Download Now Ezekiel’s prophecy specifically says that Gog’s motive for invading Israel is “to capture spoil and to seize plunder” (38:12). Certainly there is much here on which to focus for prophecy watchers and Israel’s intercessors. Because Erdogan controls the flow of refugees, he has tremendous leverage over European leaders. Despite their repeated capitulation, he continues to bully, manipulate, and threaten. In a recent comment, Erdogan cast Europe’s secular leaders as crusaders bent on a holy war. At a political rally in the Turkish capital on April 2nd, Erdogan declared, “All the leaders of the EU countries went to the Vatican and listened to the pope submissively…The situation is quite loud and clear, it is a Crusader Alliance.” Add to all of this, Erdogan’s many anti-Semitic outbursts in recent years, as well as his increasing effort to cast himself as the new Sultan of Turkey and the new Caliph of the Muslim world, and it is clear that he is indeed emerging as a likely candidate to fulfill the role of the prophesied Gog. What are we to make of all this? It is almost as if the Lord has perfectly allowed world circumstances to conform in multiple ways, giving us multiple possibilities to fulfill the words of Ezekiel’s prophecy. Is Gog emerging in front of our eyes? We may find out very soon. One thing is clear, however: the Lord wants us all to remain alert and on our knees. However things unfold over the next few years, this is a critical moment for all of Israel’s intercessors to stand in the gap and fervently cry out to the Lord for her peace, safety, and most of all, for her salvation in Messiah. 1.
